Sometimes two people who are facing the dissolution of their marriage or have disputes over support or custody simply need a third party who's experienced in facilitating an outcome without an imposed determination. Having been certified for over two decades this is effective tool in certain situations.
Unlike arbitration, where the arbitrator is the fact-finder and decision maker, mediation is a non-adversarial process involving a trained, impartial third party - the mediator - who assists parties in negotiating a mutually acceptable agreement. Parties may or may not use independent counsel to advise them during negotiations and execution of the agreement.
Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution that is informal, time and cost effective, and ultimately amicable.
