Sometimes what two people need is someone to fine-tune and memorialize what has already been agreed upon into a formal document. In fact, more than 90% of cases I have handled in almost a half century of family law practice have resulted in agreements. If engaged for this purpose, my services would be limited to making certain that all needed terms are included and that the document reflects what the parties have agreed upon.
In such circumstances, independent counsel can be obtained to review the written product before it is executed. One of the parties can then engage my services to process the final divorce without either side going go court, at which point the agreement becomes part of the final decree.
As an ancillary service, if parties have had independent counsel or have mediated with a third party, my services can be engaged to review the agreement prior to execution.
